One language across products
Work began in March 2022 with a clear goal: unify the visual language across the company's products and services, improving the user experience and making development, discovery and prototyping more efficient.
A merger and a growing product portfolio had led to inconsistencies in navigation, visuals and communication, which caused friction and a steeper learning curve for customers and employees.
The challenge
We had to create the system without a fully dedicated team, while serving business and customer needs across several products. It had to be scalable, reusable, performant and mobile-first.
Delivery milestones shaped the decisions about:
- team structure
- adapting the squads
- the changes needed to support the system
They also made the system's progress visible across the company.
Building the library
We mapped screens from every product to find and prioritise the shared components that appeared most often. Shipping those first allowed more interfaces to be updated while the products stayed live.
Adobe XD was used to build the components and share them with the product designers, and Storybook brought together each component's:
- guidelines
- behaviours
- anatomy
- source code
- demos
